A new secure, cloud-managed network speeds up point of sale transactions for members and guests and increases security.

“Since installing the Mako Network platform, we have seen a significant improvement in cash flow and income over the bar, the ability for members to pay for anything securely using their credit cards has helped us get membership and match fees in much faster than in previous years” says Giles Dobson, Treasurer Sherwood Cricket Club.

A modern, secure connection
Sherwood Cricket Club are continually improving the facilities at the club by using new technologies that reduce costs, their environmental impact, improve sustainability and attract new members. Community Sports clubs are facing many challenges with the decline in participation across all sports. Sherwood are bucking that trend by providing an environment where players and families can spend time and enjoy the facilities, while remaining securely connected to the Internet.

The latest generation benefits
Toros Consulting supplied the Mako Networks 6500-M network appliances with 4G/LTE failover to ensure all POS systems remained up and running even if the broadband failed. Using the network segmentation and built-in features of the Mako products, Sherwood have passed all penetration testing to achieve PCI DSS validation. Additional capabilities include remote access to CCTV and the club’s energy management system using the Mako secure VPN capabilities.

A partnership approach
“We approached Toros Consulting to assist us in reducing the costs of our POS system while at the same time increasing security on our other networked devices. The outcome is a platform that integrates all of the club’s requirements into a single, securely managed network. Devices such as POS, CCTV, LAN as well as Guest and Member Wi-Fi are all monitored and managed by the Mako Networks cloud platform. The advice and service from Toros Consulting was excellent. We were up and running within one day with all systems operating perfectly,” said John Fewtrell, Vice Chairman Sherwood Cricket Club.

“They’ve gone beyond my expectations and have not only reduced the running costs of the POS system by over £50 per month (which in turn pays for the Mako product), but have also integrated disparate networks like our CCTV and Wi-Fi platforms into a single manageable solution.”
